Orthodontics and TMD
Once you have a diagnosis of TMD (temporomandibular joint disorder), as your neuromuscular dentist we will determine the degree and if your bite should be realigned. Each case is different and one possible means of treatment is orthodontics.
Neuromuscular orthodontics focuses on the relationship between muscles, jaw joints, and teeth. When properly aligned, the teeth function in harmony with the jaw joints and muscles. We use specific bioinstrumentation to assess optimal function among these three important elements. With this precise instrumentation, the guesswork is taken out of determining the correct jaw and bite position to alleviate the TMD.
This information is then used in the determination of orthodontic treatment. With this degree of precision, we can make specific alterations in your bite to affect the entire system of muscles, jaw joint, nerves and teeth using orthodontics. We work with an orthodontist to move the teeth to the correct bite.
